About ourselves

We are Erik Smit and Linda Smit-van der Waals. Together we have two daughters Bo and Demi.

Linda works as an IC nurse in the hospital of Torsby. Erik has the job of manager of the house. Together we run the Kennel Mooneye Sleddogs.

The Netherlands is our homeland, but our longing for more space and nature, made us decide to immigrate to Sweden.

Since 2005 we are living in Lysvik, located in Värmland. It was a bold step, changing our lives completely, but we did not regret it for one single day!

Since 1993 we owned Alaskan Malamute dogs, a strong and big polar dog. These dogs dragged us here in Sweden through the woods every day, while all the time we were thinking that we were going to have a nice walk.

In December 2006 the idea was born to do some serious work with our dogs. They love moving about and are as strong as a horse, so why not have them pull a sleigh, so we could organize sleigh-rides in the ski-resort of Hovfjället, near Torsby?

So we decided to set up a team, however in the end not of Malamute's, but to carry on with Siberian Husky's. A more social race, lighter and slimmer, but above all, easier to manage.

We love you to come for a sledge tour or a walk with our happy husky's!

The Handlers

Irma
My name is Irma and I live since 2002 with my husband and our two children in Sweden.

Some two years before we permanently moved to Sweden, I made a Husky Tour for a week through the mountains of Sweden. I drove my own dog sledge, had to take care of my four Huskies and it was there and then that I got infected by the Husky virus.

It therefore did not take very long before we got ourselves two of these adorable Huskies: Gryffydd and Otchum.

Primarily we have our Huskies for company, but in the winter we play with them in the snow with a light dogsled, a kick-sled or while we do cross-country skiing.

Because Erik and Linda are living quite near to us, it went without saying for me to assist them with their Huskies during wintertime as much as necessary!

Nienke
Hello! I am Nienke. I am living in Sweden since March 2008. My parents, my brother and I went one day for a sleigh-ride with Erik and Linda.  And I really loved it! So I e-mailed Linda to ask if I could help them with the dogs. Just as a hobby. Because I very much love huskies and I also think they are beautiful dogs. When I still lived in Holland, I already dreamt of working with Siberian huskies.
